Despite successive setbacks, Jerwin Gaco continues to enjoy playing basketball

Jerwin Gaco has suffered successive setbacks in the past few months. After playing eight games for the Imus Bandera at the start of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup, he transferred to the Pasig Pirates.
While in the Pirates bay, he averaged 13.36 points, 7.55 rebounds, and 26.06 minutes in 11 outings. Pasig, however, ended the elimination round with a league-worst 4-21 win-loss record. In his time with Pasig, Gaco experienced some rough times as the team was mismanaged.
“Hindi kami pinasweldo nang halos two months,” Gaco told Courtside Philippines in an exclusive phone interview.
Gaco did not stop playing ball after that. He played in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League as part of the McDavid franchise. Come May, however, McDavid has also been eliminated with a 1-7 win-loss card. They also suffered a 31-106 beating at the hands of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
It gets worse for the former De La Salle big man, as two months after his last MPBL game, he is yet to secure a spot in any team for the next season of the MPBL.
“So far wala pa, naghahanap pa din ako ng teams. Meron akong pinupuntahang teams kaso medyo tight budget nila. So ayun, hintay-hintay pa,” he said.
But through it all, Gaco just never stops working. He also plays for the Pasigueno team in the Metro League.
