Earvin Mendoza says season-high 26 points against AMA wasn't something he's looking for

Batangas-EAC Generals team captain Earvin Mendoza had a season-high 26 points on top of six rebounds and five assists against the AMA Online Education Titans on Monday in the 2019 PBA D-League at the JCSGO Gym.
Unfortunately, his output went down the drain as AMA escaped with a 122-119 win.
Still, it was a solid game for Mendoza who went 9-of-19 from the field and hit some big shots for EAC down the stretch.
But for the St.Clare College alumnus, he wasn't really looking to score as he insisted that his and they're focus was to stop the deadly combination of Joshua Munzon and Franky Johnson, who still scored 38 and 37 points against them, respectively.
Instead, Mendoza's 26 points was just a byproduct of him letting the game and their system come to him.
"Hindi ko yun hinabol honestly. Mas naka-focus nga kami sa depensa kanina. How to stop Munzon and Johnson. Pero syempre andun pa din yung assertiveness ko everytime mahawakan ko yung bola. Confident ako kasi confident sa'kin mga teamates ko," the Generals' reinforcement said.
For Mendoza, he's just out to give his best for EAC. And that means, he will score when he has to or he will take a seat back and look for his teammates to carry the load.
That's the brand of basketball that the Generals are actually trying to build, after all.
"Basta ako i will always give my best for the team. Tinuturo samin hindi maging selfish. Kung may teamate ako na mainit super willing ako to pass the ball to him or help him get open," he explained.
"Kung ako naman yung mainit alam ko na ibibigay sakin ng mga teamates ko ang bola."
Aside from Mendoza, Cedrick De Joya also played huge for EAC as he dropped 26 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
The Generals (1-5) will take on next the Family Mart-Endurun College Titans on April 22 still at the JCSGO Gym.
