The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas expressed its support to Kai Sotto in his journey towards his NBA dream.
On Wednesday, Sotto made the announcement that he'll be signing with NBA G-League, a move, many seen as his stepping stone to realize his NBA dream.
The Philippine governing body to the sport said it is one with the entire country hoping that Sotto would be the very first homegrown Filipino player in the NBA.
"The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilpinas is one with all Filipino basketball fans in expressiong our all out support for Kai Sotto as he takes his next big step in his career," the federation said in a statement.
The 7'2" wunderkind will be joining fellow highschool prospect and Fil-American Jalen Green in the NBA G-League Select Team which will work under several NBA coaches and will play against the G-League teams for five months.
Sotto, who's in the US since last year to train under the Atlanta-based club The Skills Factory, actually passed up several offers from NCAA college teams and European ball clubs.
The former Ateneo Blue Eaglet however first caught the attention of the world as the pillar of the Philippine youth national team.
He, together with 6'10" Fil-Nigerian AJ Edu, towed the Philippines to the 2019 FIBA U-19 World Cup.
"We had a front row seat in seeing Kai grow through our Gilas Pilipinas Youth Program and were hopeful that his development will continue further in the NBA G-Leaguw, not just as a basketball player but as a young man as well," said the SBP.
"Kai will be a huge part of the future of the Philippine basketball so his success will be the entire country's too."
