Chauca's goal: 'to be in the conversation of greatest point guards in PBA'

Val Chauca has set an ultimate goal for himself as he looks to showcase his abilities in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The TnT KaTropa rookie point guard made it known that he wants his name to be mentioned in the conversation of the PBA's greatest point guards.
"I just want to be in the conversation of greatest point guards in PBA history...that’s what drives me. 1 day at a time," Chauca wrote in a Twitter post on Friday evening.
This isn't the first time the Filipino-Peruvian Chauca made a bold statement when it comes to his basketball career.
Ever confident, Chauca said he wanted to win a championship and also bag the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in his lone season in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 82 Men's basketball tournament last year.
While he did not win that title and the MVP plum, the 5-foot-9 cager proved to be one of the best guards in the league as he put up 12.0 points and 3.5 rebounds.
In his lone season in the UAAP, Chauca made a name for himself as one of the best scorers, and a 'microwave' scorer at that.
Despite his streaky scoring prowess, however, Chauca fell as the 45th overall pick in the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft.
That just made him more motivated to prove his worth, though.
"It just adds more fuel to the fire. I don’t think it’s gonna happen but man... It’s burning right now so I’m just excited,” he said of being picked late in the Draft.
“It was a little bit unexpected (being picked late), but I’m happy I’m in. I’m just happy for the opportunity. I’m gonna show everything I have and give it all I have and I’m just excited. I’m excited to get to work.”
