Davao Occidental, Nueva Ecija lends a hand to MPBL staff

The COVID-19 pandemic halted virtually all the sports leagues around the world, including the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
With this, the MPBL staff, just like a lot of employees, isn't earning in this time of crisis as they are paid on a per game basis.
The Davao Occidental Tigers and the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards know this full well. Thus, the two teams dished out an assist to the people working for the Chooks-to-Go-backed league.
Davao Occidental, through its team owner Claudine Baustita, gave another financial aid as Nueva Ecija, through its owners Bong and Rian Cuevas, donated 100 sacks of rice to the MPBL staff.
"Mr. Cuevas and the Mayor commiserate with the people in these trying times,” said Jai Reyes, who works as a point guard and the team manager of Nueva Ecija.
“They want to help ease the suffering of the people," he added.
This isn't the first time that MPBL teams are helping the league's employees.
Last April 12, team owners pooled money and donated it to the league staff. 10 days later, Zamboanga, through its sponsor Family's Brand Sardines, doled out, well, sardines to the MPBL people. Last May 2, the Sarangani Marlins and the General Santos Warriors aided the MPBL referees with relief goods.
These charitable acts only put a smile to the face of league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
"Gusto natin pasalamatan yung mga ka-liga natin, yung mga team owners na nagdonate doon sa daily employees natin," said Duremdes.
"Dito mo makikita yung bayanihan. Nakita nila na kawawa yung mga kasamahan natin kaya tinulungan nila agad."
