Jopher Custodio found himself as one of the frontliners in the country's battle against the Corona Virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The former Bacolod guard in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has been taking orders at the Fort Bonifacio since the Philippine government implemented the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) last March 15.
Noble as he and his job is, Custodio, just like the other frontliners out there, has yet to come home, and will not be with his family until at least May 15 - the day the second ECQ extension will be potentially lifted.
Custodio's duty to the nation left him missing important happenings in his family like his daughter Eriene Jia's seventh, eighth, and ninth month celebrations.
The also Ex-Philippine Basketball Association player, who celebrated his birthday last April 2 away from his family, is also set to miss the birthday of his wife Ericka Mae on May 2.
As this crisis takes Custodio away from his family, the sadness inevitably creeps into his being.
But as they say, for every dark cloud, there is a silver lining. And for Custodio, the silver lining is that he gets to serve his nation, especially in this time of crisis.
Custodio put up 9.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game during the MPBL Lakan Season.
