With a retooled lineup, coach Ycasiano believes Bacolod 'will be a team to be reckoned with' next MPBL season

After the recent retooling of his team's lineup, coach Vic Ycasiano believes that Bacolod will be a force to be reckoned with in the next Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League season.
Bacolod let go of its players from last season in Edgar Charcos, Ben Adamos, Yankee Haruna, and Ralph Tansingco, replacing them with JK Casiño, Cyrus Tabi, Jeff Comia, and Jason Strait.
Other than that, the Master Sardines-backed squad, who got back its star player in Mac Tallo, has also signed former General Santos shooter Jeramer Cabanag and former Mindoro big man Sandy Cenal.
Bacolod kept familiar faces as well, signing Simon Camacho and Jeff Javillonar, while still negotiating terms with its homegrown talent in Pao Javolena.
"We’ll be there next season, definitely, this will be a team to be reckoned with. This will be a totally different Bacolod team," said Ycasiano, whose team bowed out of Lakan Cup early with an 11-19 record, 11th in the South Division team standings.
"That’s the main thing, we’re eyeing for the playoffs next season. From there, we’ll see. But definitely that’s what we’re eyeing, to make it to the playoffs," he added.
Ycasiano is confident with the abilities of his new players, especially that of Tabi and Comia.
"I know Cyrus Tabi since college, nakikita ko na siya before. Magaling yung bata, kaya niyang magdala ng team, with him there and Mac Tallo leading the team, our team will go places," Ycasiano said of the 5-foot-8 guard out of the Rizal Technological University.
"I know he didn’t get much chance in the PBA but I know he’s there already, he could really fit my system and be one of the best guards here in the MPBL."
On the other hand, Comia's talent caught Ycasiano by surprise as he wondered why the six-foot guard has been off the radar of so many teams despite his abilities.
"Ang maganda talaga ang pinakita (sa mga practices namin before nung Enhanced Community Quarantine) para sa akin is si Comia, talagang future ng basketball. Maganda yung ipinakita niya, talagang grabe, hindi ko alam kung bakit hindi naglalaro yung bata pero sobrang galing pala nung batang ‘yon,” he said about the New Era University standout.
Ycasiano assured that MPBL fans are in for a treat with his retooled Bacolod squad, which will be implementing a run and gun type of offensive system.
"This team’s all about defense, our offense will be our defense. This will be a run and gun team just like my team in STI, it’s basically the same. Yun ang itatakbo ko, it’s a young team that would excite MPBL fans,” he remarked.
