Embracing new role at SMB, Terrence Romeo earns Mr. Quality Minutes citation

by Reynald Magallon, March 14, 2020 1:43pm

When Terrence Romeo got traded to the already loaded San Miguel Beermen, there were questions on how he will fit to his new team after an unceremonious exit from the TNT. Perhaps, the bigger question was how will the flamboyant guard embrace his new role, taking a step back to give way to the more seasoned veterans of the team

But Romeo delivered more than the expectations. He looked comfortable playing second-stringer to his kuyas Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter. Not only that he blended well, but he also thrived in the off the bench role and found his place in the talent-laden SMB squad.

He was pivotal in the last two championships of the team last season. He helped the team capture the five straight Philippine Cup trophy and was even more spectacular in his Finals MVP performance when the Beermen dispatched his former team, TNT to take the Commissioner's Cup title.

Romeo only averaged 12 points per game with the Beermen, a far cry from his usual numbers when he was hailed as the league's scoring champion. But Romeo gladfully took the step back to finally bag his first two championships in his career.

With that, Romeo also bagged the Mr. Quality Minutes of the 44th season awarded by the Philippine Basketball Association Press Corps.

Aside from his award, PBAPC will also hand the All-Rookie team which will feature the also-PBA Scoring champion for the season CJ Perez, Ray Parks, Robert Bolick, Javee Mocon and Abu Tratter.

The Game of the Season meanwhile was given to the do-or-die and triple-overtime thriller between the NorthPort Batang Pier and the NLEX Road Warriors.
