Basilan topped Iloilo, 83-68, to draw first blood in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup South Quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Strike Gym in Bacoor.

Dennis Daa chipped in 10 markers, two boards, and two dimes in the win.
"Actually maganda yung first quarter namin, nakauna kami ng 12-0. So, I just told the team to play 40 minutes kasi sure na babalik si Iloilo. We just need to weather the storm," said Steel coach Jerson Cabiltes post-game.
Indeed, the Steel jumped on the United Royals with a 12-0 start and led the latter by just that, 22-10 after the first quarter.
Iloilo did just enough in the middle quarters to stay within striking distance, 61-53, heading into the final canto.
However, Basilan put up a 14-2 run capped by a Gab Dagangon layup to take a 20-point, 75-55 spread to practically put the game away with 4:57 left in regulation.
