Allyn Bulanadi braces for tough playoffs series between Basilan and Iloilo
by Niel Victor Masoy, February 14, 2020 7:56pm
Allyn Bulanadi knows that his Basilan Steel is facing a tough playoffs series against the Iloilo United Royals in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup.
This, despite the third seed Basilan (20-10) holds a homecourt advantage over the sixth seed Iloilo in the best-of-three South Division Quarterfinals matchup.
It’s playoffs time, after all.
“Sa napanuod namin sa TV, they (Iloilo) played great nung kalaban nila yung Bacoor. Maganda yung nilaro nila eh,” said Bulanadi, referring to the Royals game against the Strikers which the former lost, 79-68, last February 6.
“Sa amin lang eh, it’s going to be a tough ball game, playoffs na eh. Hindi talaga magbibigayan. Hindi talaga bibigay yung bawat pwesto dyan,” he added.
When Basilan and Iloilo battled in the elimination round last August 8, the Steel earned a 78-74 victory over the Royals.
Basilan enters the playoffs with a four-game winning streak, getting that momentum and confidence for the Quarterfinals wars.
Still, Steel head coach Jerson Cabiltes wants to see more from his team.
“More killer instinct, more hustle, more aggressiveness on both ends. Medyo nakukulangan pa talaga ako,” he remarked.
The Basilan-Iloilo series is set to start on February 19 in a neutral ground first - the Strike Gym in Bacoor.
