Marc Pingris gives his thumbs up to Kiefer Ravena's appointment as Gilas captain

Known as the player who popularized and epitomized the 'Puso' battle cry, Marc Pingris gave thumbs up to the appointment of the new Gilas captain Kiefer Ravena.
Pingris said Ravena was the right fit for the position since he has the capability to lead the younger guys of the team. The many time Gilas member however said Ravena should become more vocal to lead the team similar to how former Gilas captain Jimmy Alapag led the batch of Pingris during their time to together.
"Sa akin, okay kasi talagang grabe naman talaga yung pagkatapos ng practice kinakausap niya yung mga player and then kanina, nag usap kami kung anong magandang gawin so okay siya. Sobrang naasikaso nya mga players," Pingris said of Ravena.
"Sinabi ko lang talaga na maging vocal sya kausapin nya lang talaga lagi yung mga players katulad ng ginagawa ni Jimmy (Alapag). Lagi niya kausapin yung mga bata and then pag kailangan mo ako pwede mo naman ako sabihan and then kausapin natin sila," Pingris added.
For Ravena, he was just flattered to know that the player who was once a pillar of the national team is behind him as he takes bigger responsibilities with the national team.
"Si Ping naman talaga nagsimula ng puso dito sa Gilas kung tutuusin natin di ba sa kanya naman talaga nakilala yun and for him to be able to say that nakakatuwa," Ravena commented.
Ravena said Pingris was supposedly the captain of the team but because of his unfamiliarity to the new players in the pool the post was given to the former Ateneo standout who somehow has played against or with the other players of the pool.
"Si Ping naman talaga dapat, pero siguro di na masyado kilala ni Ping yung iba or nakasama talaga personally at least kahit papaano ako right in the middle, one way or another nakalaban ko sila or naging kakampi ko somewhere," he added.
Ravena said his up to the bigger task of leading the national team in the February window, at least. Although the older Ravena in the pool felt confident with his current position especially with the other veterans of the team are ready to share the load with him.
"Malaking responsibility syempre kasi not only players yung nakatingin sayo but also the coaching staffs the people coming from the SEA games nakabawi from the World Cup and hopefully ngayon representing the country on the highest level possible with the first window," he quipped.
"Very blessed to be the captain but again di ko sinosolo yung pagiging captain ko I share the load to everyone especially the veterans and yung mga pba players."
