Like Thirdy Ravena, Alvin Pasaol insists he didn't skip PBA Draft to avoid a team

Alvin Pasaol was already eligible to apply for last year's Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Rookie Draft, but he chose to skip it.

And like Thirdy Ravena, who also did not throw his name in the Rookie Selection, Pasaol insisted he did not skip the Draft to avoid a team.

"Narinig ko nga yung balita na baka ma ban kami sa PBA. Alam naman namin yun. Hindi naman kami namimili ng team," said Pasaol in an interview with Courtside Philippines.

Recently, talks about the PBA rule possibly banning players who are already eligible for the Draft, but chose to skip it for two straight years swirled.

A player is already eligible to apply for the Rookie Draft if he played at least seven games in the PBA Developmental League (D-League).

Of course, that certain player can certainly opt not to enter the Draft - even if he's already eligible for it - if he's still finishing his college playing years.

Pasaol and Ravena have already played at least seven games in the D-League and are a year, and months done playing college ball, respectively.

If Pasaol and Ravena opt to skip the Draft again late this year, they run the risk of facing a total ban in the Asia's first pay-for-play league.

For Pasaol, he shared the only reason why he skipped the Draft last year is the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifiers set to unfold in India this March.

Of course, Pasaol - the no.2 3x3 player in the Philippines - is part of the country's pool of players for the Qualifiers.

The former University of the East (UE) star added that playing in the PBA is his main goal and stressed one more time that he did not skip it to avoid a team - basically denying that he is a 'draft dodger'.

"Nagkataon lang talaga na unang dumating yung opportunity sa Chooks-to-Go kaya grinab nanamin para habang wala pang kaming choice na pumunta ng PBA kaya ayun grinab nanamin yung 3x3," said the 6-foot-2 forward.

"Lahat naman ng players gusto makapag PBA, lalo na ako. Yun lang naman talaga yung main goal ko, ang makapunta sa PBA at makapaglaro kahit anong team. Wala akong pinipili."
