Just like last year in the Datu Cup, the North Executives beat the South Executives, 82-68, on Thursday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup All-Star event on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Makati team owner Paolo Orbeta led the way for the North Executives with 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

With his stellar performance, he earned his second straight Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the event that featured the league's team owners and officials.

Vizcarra, who plays for and serves as the team manager for the Paranaque Patriots, backstopped Orbeta with 20 points and eight boards.

Rizal Golden Coolers team owner Xandrei Cruz  turned in 11 points in the victory.

"Siyempre hardest is to win back-to-back championship. We have to motivate ourselves kung paano kami magcha-champion. Kailangan namin kunin ito sa other team," said Orbeta post-game.

"They're more athletic, taller, mas bata. But yung execution, ang ganda ng ball movement namin sa huli. Yun ang nagpanalo sa amin," he added.

Orbeta and Vizcarra joined hands in unleashing the North Executives' 17-7 that turned a one-point, 62-61 lead to an insurmountable 11-point, 79-68 advantage with 36 seconds remaining in the game.

Jay Javelosa paced the South Executives with 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists as Merman Flores (team manager of General Santos) and Aldrianne Anglim (assistant team manager of Bicol) put up 10 points each in the loss.

Nueva Ecija assistant team manager Mike Baldos, Caloocan head coach John Kallos, Quezon City team owner Onyx Crisologo, Bataan team manager Gary Palmero, Pasay co-owner Miguel Ligot, Navotas team owner Rico Quicho, Valenzuela congressman Eric Martinez, Pampanga team owner AG Gonzales, Manila owner Roman Ang, Marikina team owner and head coach Elvis Tolentino, San Juan team executive Chris Conwi, and Bulacan team owner and congressman Jonathan Alvarez also made up the North Executives team.
