Missing a bunch of games in elims, Mikey Williams expresses commitment to GenSan in MPBL playoffs

General Santos Filipino-American guard Mikey Williams missed a total of 14 games in the elimination round in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup.
10 of those DNPs (did not play) were due to an unknown reason and four of which were due to him playing for the Mighty Sports squad that recently won the Dubai International basketball tournament.
With Williams missing that many games, General Santos' playoffs bid was greatly affected.
When he returned and played against Makati, the struggling General Santos squad lost for the fourth straight time, 90-91, last February 6.
The loss put the Mindanao-squad's playoffs hopes in peril as they were pressured to win at least one of their two remaining games in the eliminations.
Fortunately, the tide has turned. And with the 6-foot-2 Williams delivering the goods, General Santos clinched the last playoffs cast in the South Division by routing Sarangani, 104-87 on February 10.
Williams tallied 18 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in that contest. He didn't stop there, pouring in 12 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds to help lead General Santos in winning over Nueva Ecija, 85-80, on Wednesday as his team finished the elimination with an 18-12 slate.
The seventh seed General Santos is set to take on the formidable Bacoor Strikers in the playoffs - where the latter hold a home court advantage.
Williams vows to be there fighting for his team, with the hopes that General Santos can go all the way to the championship.
"I’ll be here for the playoffs. Hopefully, we can make a run for the championship. We’ll see. I mean, we just got to take things game by game and see what takes place,' said Williams.
Williams also expressed confidence to their preparation and the talent of his teammates which they need to take down the Strikers, who beat them last January 20, 87-75.
"We have a couple of days to practice, we have to get ready for whoever we got. Whoever it is, we have a game plan and we’re gonna be ready. I have great teammates, I have pretty good players all around. I bring a lot to the table but they bring just as much."
The best-of-three General Santos-Bacoor Quarterfinals match is set to start on February 19 at the Strike Gym in Bacoor.
