Mark Dickel hardly worried despite Wright's pull out, Parks, Baltazar's absence

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Mark Dickel is hardly worried despite Matthew Wright's pull out and the continuous absence of some of the players he named in the 24-man pool.

Dickel bared after the team's Wednesday night practice at the Meralco Gym that Phoenix Fuel Masters gunner and long time Gilas member Matthew Wright had begged off for the February window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Qualifiers.

"I believe Matthew opted out to this window. We'll see in the future hopefully, he can be reconsidered," bared Dickel.

Aside from the Wright, TNT's Ray Parks and De La Salle's Justine Baltazar have yet to show up in Gilas practice. Gilas program director Tab Baldwin explained after Gilas first practice that Parks is still in the middle of his negotiation with his mother club regarding his contract. As for Baltazar meanwhile, Dickel said Gilas team manager Gabby Cui is the right person to talk to.

" I think with Baltazar, it’s a work in progress. You should probably speak with Gabby or management about that," said Dickel.

Despite the absence of some of his players, Dickel was hardly concerned, insisting that his focus right now is to get the players who are attending the practices ready for the games in the February window

"That's out of my control right now, I just focus on who shows up. I know our management is trying to help us to get everyone here but the players that are here are giving their all that's what I focus on," said Dickel.

"I'm not too worried whether they show up or not. We're more concerned about the players that are here," he added.

Aside from Wright, Christian Standhardinger and Mac Belo also pulled out from the pool due to their respective injuries while Japeth Aguilar was in a long overdue honeymoon.

Gilas Pilipinas already made their moves tapping PBA cagers to the pool namely Justin Chua, Javee Mocon, Vic Manuel and Abu Tratter.

Chua and Mocon already showed up in the practice while Manuel and Tratter failed to attend as they're still in the Alaska Aces' team building.
