Columbian Dyip head coach John Cardel felt that his team now have the depth it needs to be competitive in the Philippine Cup.
The Dyip have boosted their line-up for the All-Filipino conference by adding the number 1 overall pick Roosevelt Adams and Letran champion team members Christian Balagasay and Bon Batiller.
The three will be joining the team that features CJ Perez, Juami Tiongson, Glen Khobuntin, Rashawn McCarthy and recently acquired big man Aldrech Ramos.
Roosevelt and Perez were viewed as the team's one-two punch but Cardel is trying to temper expectation for the two.
"Too early to say na it's a very big impact but kung ako (tatanungin) syempre ang (gusto) ko it will be a very good impact, kasi I have CJ, I have Roose, I have shooters, siguro it's a matter of sabi ko nga, tulungan na lang," said Cardel after their 94-86 victory over the visiting Dankook University of Korea on Tuesday.
The dynamic duo showed what they're capable of as they provided the Dyip the scoring in their first tune-up game. Perez unloaded 25 points while Adams contributed 18.
Cardel said his prized rookie is adjusting well to the team, evident with his performance in his first tune-up game with the team.
"Di siya nahirapan sa adjustment and kinakausap ko naman siya just be a good teammates even though you're a rookie, you communicate with your teammates like CJ before," said Cardel.
"Itong dalawang ito (Perez and Adams), yung rookies namin, we're intact. With Shawn McCarthy, Celda, Juami so we're a very deep team right now," he added.
Cardel admitted that Adams, who he noted as an already complete package, will be a huge boost for the team to attract the defense away from Perez.
"He's very agile type na parang J-Wash nung araw parang Troy Rosario maganda yung nilaro niya ngayon in and out and yung defense also, kumpleto sya eh. He's a package deal malaking bagay sa amin," he said.
However, Cardel said they still have a lot to work on with still a month left before the opening of the season on March 1.
"We need to double our efforts sa depensa, kasi iba rin naman yung sa PBA tough defense, physical defense so inaadapt namin ngayon yun," he said.
"'Yung disiplina na lang kailangan namin madevelop, sa opensa especially sa depensa."
