The Araneta Coliseum lit up in purple and gold as Pinoy fans trooped to the Big Dome, Monday evening, not to watch a game but to pay tribute to the NBA legend Kobe Bryant who passed away after a helicopter crash earlier in the day.
A large number of Kobe fans gathered at the green gate of the Big Dome and paid respect to the late basketball icon by lighting up candles at exactly 8:24 of the evening - Bryant's retired numbers with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Fans who also brought all of their Bryant memorabilias with them were also allowed to write their messages for Bryant on a wide wall which will be open for other fans up until Wednesday.
Araneta City's New Frontier Theater also paid tribute by putting up a Kobe Bryant poster on its LED Board in front of its entrance.
The Araneta Coliseum was where most of Bryant's visits and exhibition games happened during his visits in the country.
Bryant and his 13-year old daughter Gianna were two of the nine casualties of the Helicopter crash that shocked the world including avid pinoy hoop fans. The NBA legend and his daughter were supposed to go to Bryant's mamba academy before the accident happened.
NBA players also paid tribute during their games on Monday with the teams taking 24 second violations and eight second violations to start the game. A moment of silence was also offered before the games.
