NU Nazareth stays perfect at 9-0 with win over Adamson

Nazareth School of National University beat Adamson University, 94-79, on Sunday to stay perfect at 9-0 in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 82 High School Boys basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Terrence Fortea barked the loudest among the Bullpups with 25 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Carl Tamayo showed his efficiency in the court and came through with 18 points, seven boards, and two blocks in 19 minutes and 37 seconds of action.
Karl Quiambao put up 16 markers, seven rebounds and four assists, while Reyland Torres chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the defending champions.
The Bullpups asserted their dominance in the first half as it led the Baby Falcons by eight points, 26-18 after the first quarter and by 12 points, 47-35, at the half.
Adamson, though, came to life in the third period and rallied back to get within a point, 54-55, following a pair of free throws from Joshua Barcelona with 5:51 left in the quarter before finding itself down by three points, 62-65, entering the final canto.
NU, however, showed its championship poise and blitzed Adamson with a 16-6 run punctuated by a Carl Tamayo bucket to take a 13-point, 81-68 lead with 4:20 remaining in regulation.
Both the lead and the time remaining proved to be enough for the Bullpups to cruise to the win.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) John Figueroa paced the Baby Falcons with an all-around performance of 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
John Erolon cashed in 13 points, five steals, four assists, and two rebounds as Joshua Barcelona produced 12 points and eight caroms.
Didat Hanapi punched in 11 markers, eight boards, and three assists.
Adamson fell to a 4-5 record, good for the fifth spot in the team standings.
