Big blow for Meralco as MRI shows Almazan sustained lateral meniscal tear on left knee
by Reynald Magallon, January 14, 2020 11:08am
The Meralco Bolts took a huge blow as the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) done on injured center Raymond Almazan showed that he sustained a lateral meniscal tear on his left knee.
"MRI shows Raymond sustained a Lateral Meniscal Tear on his left knee," said the Bolts team manager Paolo Trillo in a text message to Courtside Philippines.
Almazan failed to finish Game 3 after sustaining the injury with still 5:55 left in the opening frame. The 6'7" slotman went hard to the basket but landed awkwardly, immediately feeling the pain as he clutched to his left knee while on the ground.
Almazan had to be carried out of the playing court to their dugout. Initial prognosis was just a left knee strain but the MRI confirmed the severity of the injury on Tuesday.
The Bolts bowed to the Gin Kings, 94-82, and are now down 2-1 in the series. It's still unclear whether Almazan will be able to return to the series as the Bolts will still have to talk to him regarding the injury and assess their next move.
Almazan was a vital part of Meralco's success averaging 17.5 points, 11 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in two games in the Finals series.
