Charles Tiu admits adding Ravena to loaded wing rotation of Mighty was hard, but saying no to Thirdy's talent was impossible

The Mighty Sports squad that is set to compete in the 31st Dubai International Basketball Championship already boasts a deep wing rotation of Jamie Malonzo, Dave Ildefonso, and Javi Gomez de Liano.

Now, that rotation has just gotten deeper with the addition of Thirdy Ravena.

As much as it is a good problem for Mighty head coach Charles Tiu, he said it’s not easy adding Ravena to the pool. However, he couldn’t say no to the talent of three-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines Finals MVP, whom he said reached out to him.

“It was a hard process because our lineup was already full but now can you say no to a guy like Thirdy? We’ve got a deep rotation now on the wing, everyone will have to fight for their minutes,” said Tiu in a text message to Courtside Philippines.

“I know Thirdy has always wanted to play international ball and also he’s always wanted to play for Mighty. He reached out, saying he wanted to play so we just had to find a way to make it happen.”

Ravena joins not only a deep wing rotation, but also a loaded Mighty Sports squad that boasts former Gilas Pilipinas naturalized center Andray Blatche, the 7-foot-2 wunderkind Kai Sotto, and UAAP star Juan Gomez de Liano.

The Dubai International Basketball Championship is set to start from January 23 to February 1, at the Shabab Al Ahli Club.

Mighty Sports finished as the third-place team in last year’s edition of the tournament.
