Kai Sotto’s stellar play in the United States is definitely turning the heads of many basketball observers, including that of the DraftSite.
DraftSite - which describes itself as ‘one of the draft industry leaders in providing online mock draft projections and amateur draft content for 6 different professional sports' drafts (in the US)’ had Sotto as the consensus 18th overall pick in the 2021 National Basketball Association (NBA) Rookie Draft.
Drafting the Filipino 7-foot-2 sensation in the first round is the Utah Jazz.
The 17-year-old Batang Gilas star is also 18th in the site’s top 200 player rankings.
In the mock draft’s section of the site, however, Sotto is projected to be drafted six notches lower, with the Golden State Warriors drafting him as the 24th overall pick.
Meanwhile, Sotto’s fellow National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) star Jalen Green was projected by DraftSite to be picked fourth overall both in its consensus and mock drafts.
Drafting the 6-foot-6 Filipino-American Green is the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Sotto’s Draft projection and player ranking could change next week as DraftSite updates its draft projection weekly.
Sotto currently trains at the Atlanta-based program The Skill Factory (TSF), and with his fine play for TSF, the former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglet is also getting the attention of the top college basketball programs in the States.
Recently, Sotto paid an unofficial visit at the University of Kentucky where he conversed with the Wildcats’ coaches John Calipari and Kenny Payne.
He then made an official visit at the Georgia Tech University and even wore the schools’ jersey as he posed for a picture with Yellow Jackets coach Josh Pastner.
Sotto has yet to make any commitments, though, as of posting time.
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 81 Juniors Most Valuable Player (MVP), however, is set to play for the Philippine ball club Mighty Sports in the 31st Dubai International Basketball Championship as an amateur.
The annual basketball tournament is set to unfold on January 23 up to February 1 at the Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai.
