Rey Suerte only dreamt of playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), but luck and of course his talent was just on his side as he was selected to be part of the Gilas draft pool in the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft on Sunday.
Suerte said he was overwhelmed by the news but he was grateful for the blessing.
Pinapangarap ko kasi PBA lang eh so sobrang grateful, sobra sobrang biyaya binigay ng Diyos," said Suerte during the first day of the PBA Draft Combine at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong.
The 2-time CESAFI MVP and former UE Red Warrior however is accepting the challeng of playing for the flag and the country while also living up with the PBA dream.
Excited din," added the 6'3" guard out of Monkayo, Compostela Valley.
Suerte was one of the 71 PBA aspirants who attended the draft combine and participated in the biometrics and the pocket tournament. The high scoring guard, who made waves in CESAFI and his one year in the Red Warriors uniform, had mixed emotions as he joined the other aspirants in the combine.
"Sobrang, may halong excited and kaba.
Suerte also vowed to give his all whether it's for the flag and the country or the team that will give him an opportunity in the PBA.
