Jack Animam seeks redemption with Gilas Women in SEA Games basketball joust
by Niel Victor Masoy, December 05, 2019 10:30pm
When the National University Lady Bulldogs swept the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines season 82 Women’s basketball Finals to claim their 96th straight win and sixth straight title, Jack Animam was nowhere to be found at the Mall of Asia Arena where the Big Dance took place last November 23.
Animam didn’t play in that Game Two and all of the championship series as she was nursing an orbital fracture on her left eye which she incurred when she played for the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s basketball team in the 2019 Fiba Women's Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Saturday in New Zealand last November 16.
Obviously, the injury deprived Animam from helping NU in the Finals and hindered her to celebrate with the Lady Bulldogs.
With this, Animam eyes for redemption in the Southeast Asian Games Women’s basketball joust with the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team.
“Oo talaga parang everyday (gusto ko bumawi). Sabi ko sa MOA gaganapin yung SEA Games. Parang last two three weeks nandito yung collegiate team ko kung saan nag-champion sila without me,” said Animam moments after Gilas Women outlasted Indonesia, 63-56, to begin their SEA Games basketball campaign.
“Syempre parang gusto ko rin ma-emulate kung ano yung nagawa nila without me with this Gilas Women,” said Animan, who put up nine points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals against Singapore.
Other than her personal redemption and winning the gold for the Philippines, Aninam also said she and the rest of the Gilas Women want to win it all to reciprocate the support of Dioceldo Sy, who has been bankrolling the Philippine Women’s national team for quite some time now.
“Talagang gusto-gusto kong mag-gold. Gusto kong manalo para sa lahat ng mga taong sumusuporta sa amin lalong-lalo na sa hindi nagsawa na sumuporta sa amin na si boss Dioceldo Sy ng Ever Bilena,” remarked Animam,” uttered the 6-foot-2 Animam.
“Gustong-gusto talaga namin makuhang ‘tong SEA games ngayon," added Animam, who, together with Clare Castro, Afril Bernardino, and Janine Pontejos won the gold medal of the SEA Games Women's 3x3 basketball tourney last December 2.
