Ginebra big man Greg Slaughter will be taking the place of injured guard RR Pogoy in the final 12-man line up of the Gilas Pilipinas for the 5-on-5 Men's basketball events in the Southeast Asian Games.
With Pogoy out due to a back injury and Castro reportedly begged as he still nurses a calf injury, head coach Tim Cone opted to tap the seven-foot Slaughter to boost the squad.
Slaughter was coming off a thumb injury but was deemed to be fit enough to play in the SEA Games.
With his inclusion, the Gilas 12 added more ceiling in the frontline that already features June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger, Troy Rosario and Vic Manuel.
Slaughter was actually one of the three Gilas cuts along side Art Dela Cruz and Scottie Thompson. The three was then recalled to practice after Pogoy's injury to decide on who to replace the Katropa sniper.
Despite Pogoy's exit from the line up, Tim Cone remained confident that his team can shoot the lights out at any given night led by sharp shooters Marcio Lassiter and Matthew Wright. Ginebra duo Stanley Pringle and LA Tenorio as well as Kiefer Ravena and Chris Ross can also provide the outside sniping for the Filipino dribblers
Gilas will be making their debut against Singapore on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
