Gilas Pilipinas crushes Indonesia, wins gold medal in SEA Games Men’s 3x3 basketball tourney

Gilas Pilipinas dominated Indonesia, 21-9, to bag the gold medal of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Men’s 3x3 basketball tournament on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
C-Jay Perez led the Philippines with 10 points, scoring from all over the floor, while Jason Perkins and Chris Newsome put up four points apiece as the Philippines won the first 3x3 Men’s basketball tournament of the biennial meet.
Moala Tautuaa chipped in three points, including the gold-clinching deuce at the 2:25 mark of the contest.
Perez shone the brightest of all the players on the half court as he scored six of his total points in Gilas’ decisive 13-4 run which turned a 6-4 lead into a huge 11-point, 19-8 buffer with 4:14 left.
Perez’ scintillating performance was highlighted by his baseline throw down over Indonesia’s Surliyadin at the 7:10 mark that had the fans in attendance rocking.
Meanwhile, the Filipino-American Perkins proved to be a force down low once more as the also Filipino-American Newsome torched the Indons with his nifty drives and finishing ability around the rim.
With the victory, the Filipinos swept all of its games in the tournament for an 8-0 slate.
