Perez, Perkins shine as Gilas nips Vietnam to stay spotless through three games in SEA Games 3x3 Men’s basketball

C-Jay Perez and Jason Perkins joined hands to power Gilas Pilipinas over Vietnam, 21-15, as the Philippines stayed spotless through three games on Sunday, December 1 in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games 3x3 basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Unlike Gilas’ first two opponents for the day, the Viatnemese put up a legitimate challenge to the Filipinos in the race-to-21 contest.
However, Perez and the Filipino-American Perkins was there to keep the Philippines afloat whenever Vietnam threatens to pull of an upset the before the boisterous Filipino home crowd.
Perkins unleashed eight points as he asserted his might down low, while Perez also cashed in eight points - getting that point total by scoring from the outside and attacking the paint with his skillful drives and finishing ability.
With Gilas leading only by two points, 10-8, at the 5:56 mark, Perkins took over, dominating every Vietnamese defender down low to power a 7-2 Philippines rally that gave the host country a seven-point, 17-10 lead with 3:10 left.
Dierker William and Dihn Tam carried Vietnam back with a 5-1 spurt as the Vietnamese got within three points, 18-15, at the 1:17 mark of the back-and-forth contest.
However, the Filipinos did not crumble.
Perez rose to the occassion and blew by Tran Khoa for a one-handed powerful dunk, while Mo Tautuaa then came through for the win-clinching deuce with 36.5 to go, much to the delight of the Filipino fans.
