Nambatac says former Letran teammate Balanza now ‘PBA ready’
by Niel Victor Masoy, November 27, 2019 6:38pm
Rain or Shine Elasto Painter Rey Nambatac said his former Colegio de San Juan de Letran teammate Jerrick Balanza is now ready for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
“Para sa akin, PBA ready na talaga si Jerrick,” the 5-foot-11 Nambatac said of Balanza, whom he won a championship with in 2015 when the Knights beat the San Beda College (now University) Red Lions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association season 91 Finals.
Nambatac was then on his third playing year in the NCAA, while Balanza was still a rookie.
For Nambatac, all Balanza needed to do to be competitive in the PBA is to keep on what he’s doing and be wise enough to outwit the opposition.
“Advice ko lang, continue nya lang ginagawa nya ngayon. Pagdating sa PBA, yung competitiveness (andun pa rin), kelangan as much as possible marunong ka i-outsmart yung mga kalaban mo,” he said.
“Yun lang naman yung mga kunting adjustment ni Jerrick kasi para sa’kin naman andyan na siya eh, kaya niya eh,” added Nambatac, who was also teammates with Balanza back in their Letran Squires (the high school basketball team of Letran) days.
Balanza, 23, proved to be one of the heroes for Letran in its conquest of San Beda this season 95 Finals.
In the sudden-death Game Three of the championship series, Balanza unloaded 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists to lead the Knights to a pulsating 81-79 triumph.
