Rain or Shine nips Meralco to pump life to their playoff hopes

The Rain or Shine Elastopainters banked on a huge fourth quarter flurry to help them turn back the Meralco Bolts, 83-81, in the 2019 Governors' Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday and pump some life to their playoff hopes.
Rich Ross led the ROS with 26 points while Nambatac added 24 markers as the two fueled the huge fourth quarter flurry from the E-painters in the final frame. Rain or Shine banked on a huge 17-2 start in the payoff period to turn the tides into their favor after trailing by as much as 13 points in the third frame.
The Bolts were up by nine points at the start of the payoff period, 69-60 but the Elastopainters started an uprising, unloaded nine unanswered points courtesy of import Rich Ross and Mark Borboran to tie the game, 69-all with 6:47 to go after a Kris Rosales layup. Borboran then kept the run going with a break away layup that shoved Rain or Shine ahead, 71-69 with 6:23 left.
Allen Durham stopped the bleeding for the Bolts with a layup but Ross replied with a jumper before Chris Exciminiano split his charities and Rey Nambatac drained a long bomb to cap the 17-2 flurry and lead by six, 77-71.
Chris Newsome and Nambatac then exchanged baskets before Anjo Caram and Raymond Almazan nailed back-to-back hits to come within two, 79-77 with 2:53 left,
Norbert Torres stretched the lead to four with a free throw before Nambatac nailed a floater to extend the lead to five. Durham and Almazan however scored four straight points for Meralco to come within one, 82-81 with 47 seconds remaining in the game.
A Jewel Ponferrada free throw gave ROS a two point cushion which proved to be enough as the Bolts came up dry in their next offensives after Durham and Almazan missed their potential game-tying shots giving the E-painters the victory.
With the win, ROS just need to hope NorthPort loses its game against Ginebra in the second game and Alaska wins its game against NLEX to at least force a playoff game for the eight spot against Columbian.
