CJ Cansino on making the Finals in his sophomore season: 'Sobrang saya ko'

Last season, CJ Cansino was not able to finish his rookie year for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers as he succumbed to an ACL injury.
With him gone, UST also failed to finish its final push for a Final Four spot, ending up with a 5-9 win-loss card for an early exit in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 81 Men’s basketball tournament.
Now, the tide has turned for the returning Cansino and the rest of the Growling Tigers.
With its Semifinals win over University of the Philippines (UP) on Wednesday, UST advanced to the season 82 Finals, and are set to face the defending champions Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles.
And that’s why even Cansino was not able to contribute significantly for the Growling Tigers in the knockout game, he’s still filled with joy he broke into tears after their’ 68-65 triumph over the Fighting Maroons.
“Sobrang saya ko. Kahit di ako naka contribute nang malaki, nakapasok naman kami ng Finals. Iba talaga yung feeling pag pumapasok ng finals eh, sobrang sarap,” said Cansino post-game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Simula noong pumasok ako ng UST high school, pangarap ko na talaga ipasok ang UST sa finals,” added the 6-foot-1 guard, who used to be the star for the UST Tigers Cub in the Juniors division.
“Di ko maexplain (yung feeling) eh. Bigla nalang tumulo yung luha ko tas tinignan ko yung mga tao and gaano sila kasaya. Sobrang sarap sa feeling.”
Cansino and the whole UST squad, however, is not satisfied just to reach the Finals as they want to it all.
“Pero di pa tapos eh mas gusto ko kunin yung championship bago kami magsaya.”
