by Reynald Magallon, November 09, 2019 5:45pm
Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar played huge for the Kings as got the crucial victory over the TNT Katropa but the 6'9 beanpole downplayed his game saying he was just trying to be aggressive and play within the system.
"Comin' to this game, focus lang talaga kami sa pageexecute ng offense namin 'tsaka sa depensa. 'Yon lang actually, 'yung mindset namin to this game, just to stay focus," said Aguilar.
"I just try to play hard, play within the system, tapos 'yun nga, focus din kami sa mga game plans namin, sa defensive game plans namin. Nagkataon lang na 'yung bola napupunta sa'kin, tapos 'yon, tinake ko lang 'yung every opportunity kung ano mabigay sa'kin," added Aguilar who finished with 29 points to go along with 10 boards.
Aguilar and the rest of the Kings also understood how huge the game for them as they try to vie for a spot in the Top Four that will merit them a twice-to-beat advanatage in the Quarterfinals.
"Crucial 'tong panalo, malaking bagay 'to para sa standing namin. We all know na nasa top 'yung Talk N Text. So this won't ano, might give us quotient," he added.
The Gilas mainstay had to hold the forth on his own as frontline partner Greg Slaughter was sidelined with a dislocated thumb. Aguilar however stressed that the situation was nothing new for him as he was always ready to play and contribute.
"Focus talaga ako na 'yun nga, 'wag magkamali sa defense, pero expected naman na may mga lapses na mangyayari. It's been a while na nagstart din ako ng game. Iba lang, naiiba lang routine ko this morning papunta sa game, ready lang ako to set the tempo for the rest of the games."
