Chris Ross confident Beermen can break out of recent slump
by Reynald Magallon, November 06, 2019 12:41pm
San Miguel Beer guard Chris Ross played down his team's recent struggle and he's confident that the rest of the Beermen can pick up the slack in time for the crucial stretch of the eliminations.
The two-way guard stressed that the situation that they're in right now was nothing new for the Beermen and that they were able to fight through such adversities in the past conference.
"It was not new, we go through that every conference. We tend to lose in a row every conference the good thing with our team, we're full of heads so we all have the sense of urgency when we have to buckle down and be better and our time is now," said Ross after the Gilas tune up game against Alab when asked about SMB's recent struggle.
The Beermen are currently in a two game losing skid, the latest loss against the Meralco Bolts where they suffered a 125-99 beatdown. The two straight losses resulted to the Beermen losing grip of the one of the coveted top four spots in the standings. The top four spots will get a twice-to-beat advantage in the Quarterfinals.
It also didn't help that import Dez Wells suffered an ankle injury in their loss to the Bolts. Despite falling to the fifth spot, the Beermen still have the chance to ove up in the standings should they sweep the last three games.
They will face the Blackwater Elite on Wednesday before taking on the Rain or Shine Elastopainters in an out of town game on Saturday.
"Hopefully Dez is alright. He's still fighting through his ankle problems and we'll try to just fight through it and try to win this game on Wednesday before we go to the out of town game on Saturday," said Ross.
"So we're talking about getting better on practice and we go from there."
