Chris Ross glad to finally put the Gilas jersey on in their tune-up game against Alab

It may just be a tune-up game but the Gilas Pilipinas game against Alab Pilipinas meant a lot to San Miguel Beer guard and Gilas pool member Chris Ross.
Ross, who have long expressed his desire to play for the national team, finally got his wish to put on the blue Gilas jersey granted when he started for the Tim Cone-mentored national squad.
"It was cool. I mean it's fun to finally get out there and wear that jersey and being out there with the guys," said Ross who finished with seven points in Gilas' 98-95 victory over Alab.
"I got to get my nerves out quick because Coach Tim put me in the first five and you know once you start playing basketball everthing turns to normal. I'm just glad that my first tune up game resulted with a win," added the veteran two-way guard.
Ross however admitted that the squad got their hands full against the Philippine ABL team considering that it was just Gilas' first game together. It also added to the challenge that they were playing against a team that they were not familiar with, something they'll more or less experience when they take on the Southeast Asian teams in the SEA Games.
"We didn't have any game plan we don't know half of the guys that we were playing so we don't know their tendencies so we kinda just played out there just trying to get better with ourselves, try to play as a team, share the ball and lock in on defense," said Ross.
Nevertheless, Ross felt they played great although he admitted that there were a lot of things the squad need to improve on. For the veteran guard though, he was just glad to be part of that process.
"I felt like for the most part, we did well but obviously beeing the first game there's a lot we can improve on," he said.
"It's always good to get the win, more so it's good to be involve in the process of getting to where we wanna be and we know we're not gonna be where want to be at in a month or so but today was a good stepladder for us moving forward."
