Getting counted out in Final Four race didn’t stop FEU to keep on working, says Tuffin

Entering this University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 82 Men’s basketball tournament, the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws wasn’t really considered as one of the favorites that would make the Final Four.
That was primarily because FEU lost its star players in Arvin Tolentino and Prince Orizu to graduation and its roster is composed of more rookies than veterans for this season.
Despite these, Tams team captain Ken Tuffin shared FEU never lost its zeal to keep on working.
Thus, the Tamaraws (8-6), quite surprisingly, clinched the third spot and made the Semifinals following their win over the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors Sunday at the Ynares Center.
“Throughout the season, we talked about the things we can and can’t control so every game, we have the same approach. Of course we had some off games, people doubted us, people talked down on us, they didn’t expect us to be here,” said the Filipino-Kiwi Tuffin.
“Through the past years we’ve been on the radar, we had a lot of good seniors but… superstar teams so FEU is not often talked about. I mean we don’t mind but we just try to take care of business,” the 6-foot-4 forward added.
In spite of people not expecting the Tamaraws to make the Semis, Tuffin shared they didn’t really have an added motivation to prove people wrong.
Again, FEU just continued to work.
“We talked about story of David and Goliath, and we have no chip on our shoulder, no matter who we go up against, Ateneo, UP, UST.”
Now that the Tams made the Final Four and people starting to respect them, Tuffin said FEU is just out to do the same approach - keep on working and let go of the results.
“Nothing really changed,” remarked Tuffin.
“We just have to believe in ourselves, and now they start taking notice of us, we didn’t mind. We just gonna stay working and… play for the upcoming weeks so we will prepare a lot.”
