cseason 82 Men’s basketball tournament at the Ynares Center.
With the Soaring Falcons pulling themselves to within a point, 70-69, after trailing by 10 points, 67-57 early in the fourth quarter, Concepcion buried a trey to give the Growling Tigers a four-point, 73-69 with 2:57 left in regulation.
Subdio then drilled a near left corner triple off a fake to make it a seven-point, 76-69 UST lead at the 1:36 mark. Still, Adamson was not about to go down without a fight and unleashed a 5-1 spurt capped by a Jerrick Ahanmisi three-bomb to come within three, 77-74, with 11 ticks left.
However, Subido’s pair of made free throws at the 10-second mark and a Jerom Lastimosa turnover with four seconds remaining spelled doom for the Soaring Falcons (4-9) and the eighth win in 14 outings (8-6) for UST.
“Hell of a game,” said Growling Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo of the contest which saw 14 lead changes and six deadlocks.
“This is a learning experience sa mga batang (assistant) coaches ko and rookies (players) on handling pressure,” added Ayo as UST assured itself at least a playoff for the last Semifinals spot.
Beninese center Soulemane Chabi Yo led the Growling Tigers anew with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds, on top of two blocks. Mark Nonoy backstopped him with 17 markers, eight caroms, and five assists.
Rhenz Abando turned in 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, while Subido cashed in 12 points, seven assists, and two caroms.
Joem Sabandal paced the already eliminated Adamson squad, turning in 18 points and six rebounds as Jerrick Ahanmisi punched in 11 points, five assists, two caroms, and two steals.
Simon Camacho also played well, pouring in 10 points and nine rebounds, while Congolese center Lenda Douanga put up seven markers and 10 boards.
