Racela braces for UE as FEU tries to bolster Final Four bid

While Far Eastern University (FEU) blasted University of the East (UE), 81-65, in their first round encounter last September 8, Tamaraws head coach Olsen Racela expects a tough Red Warriors squad to go opposite FEU on Sunday, October 27 at the Ynares Center.

Racela cited that the already eliminated-UE (3-9) has nothing to lose and that could help the Red Warriors play with less pressure and play well, in the process.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) great also emphasized the need for the Tamaraws (7-6) to contain UE’s top guns in Rey Suerte and Senegalese center Alex Diakhite in the match slated at 2:00 p.m.

“We just have to prepare hard against UE dahil ang UE really has nothing to lose,” said Racela of the already eliminated Red Warriors.

“I expect them to play well on Sunday and kailangang ma-match namin yun and really focus on defending Suerte, Diakhite, and all the others,” he added.

With FEU notching its second straight win at Adamson University’s expense last Wednesday, the Morayta-based squad grabbed the third spot of the team standings in this University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 82 Men’s basketball tournament.

A win over the Red Warriors will definitely bolster the Tamaraws’ chances of making the Semifinals. A victory would assure FEU at least a playoff for the last spot in the Final Four.

A defeat, however, could possibly took the Tamaraws out of contention for the Semifinals.

Meanwhile, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers (6-6) and the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons (8-4) slug each other out in the day’s second game.

La Salle (6-6) looks to keep its Final Four hopes alive and avenge its 72-71 first round loss to UP. A loss to the Fighting Maroons could very well eliminate the Green Archers from the Final Four race.

On the other hand, UP is out to beat La Salle anew as a win would enable the Fighting Maroons to claim the solo second spot even if they would lose to the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles (standing) on Wednesday, October 30.

Basically, a win by UP over  La Salle would assure them a spot in the Semifinals.
