Cansino says recovery from ACL injury taught him to keep on pushing

CJ Cansino was having a spectacular rookie season for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 81 Men’s basketball tournament.
However, his impressive showing came to a screeching halt when he incurred an ACL injury in UST’s game against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons last November 10 of last year.
Recovering from such a devastating injury was definitely frustrating, but one thing it did good for the 6-foot-1 Cansino was that it taught him to never settle and keep on putting in the work to improve.
“Akala ko nagawa ko na lahat kasi di ako nagpapahinga, wala akong rest day. Inaaraw-araw ko yung therapy ko and yung pagba-basketball ko,” shared Cansino.
“Akala ko kumpleto na ko. Sabi ko nga kay sir na 100 percent na ko, pero nung paglabas na sa laro, di pa pala,” he added.
Through 10 games this UAAP season 82, Cansino struggled to find his old deadly form, indeed. He, however, gained some momentum in UST’s last two games, especially in the Growling Tigers’ win over the National University (NU) Bulldogs when he tallied 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
“Naging learning din sa akin yun na wag mag-stop na kahit na feeling mo na kumportable ka, make yourself uncomfortable all the time para mag-improve ka pa lalo,” said Cansino.
