GenSan takes charge early to beat Parañaque

The GenSan Warriors took care of business early and held off the Parañaque Patriots the rest of the way to take a 78-67 victory on Saturday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Rizal Memorial College Gymnasium.
The game was tied at 5-5 when Ervic Vijandre and Pamboy Raymundo hit a jumper each and Robby Celiz sank to free throws, giving the Warriors an 11-5 lead with 1:20 left in the first quarter.
Daniel De Guzman replied with a jumper for the Patriots, but Jeramar Cabanag, Meylan Landicho, and Daryl Goloran scored two points apiece to give GenSan a 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Warriors simply took care of the lead the rest of the way, taking a 39-26 advantage into the third quarter and a 61-42 lead into the final canto before settling for a 78-67 win.
Raymundo led the Warriors with 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while Cabanag added 10 markers.
Jemmal Vizcarra top-scored for the Patriots with 19 points along with eight rebounds, three dimes, and one interception while Daniel De Guzman finished with 13 points and six boards.
With the win, GenSan improved to a 12-5 win-loss record ahead of their October 9 game against the Rizal Xentro Mall Golden Cooler. Parañaque fell to 6-11 before they face the Quezon City Capitals on October 9.
