The Bacoor City Strikers turned a five-point advantage at the end of the third into a 17-point lead in the fourth to beat the Biñan City, Laguna Krah Heroes, 78-70, on Friday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the STRIKE Gymnasium.
The Heroes led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter before the Strikers took the upper hand at the half, 39-32. Bacoor was ahead by just five, 52-47, at the start of the fourth when Oping Sumalinog scored on a layup, Gab Banal hit a three-pointer, King Destacamento scored underneath, and Mark Montuano completed an and-1 play to make it a 62-47 ball game in favor of Bacoor.
Banal then traded four points with two points each from James Mangahas and Macky Acosta before trading a free throw each with Clark Bautista. A pair of Destacamento charities made it a 70-53 game with 3:34 left to play and the Striker held on to the victory.
Former MPBL Most Valuable Player Banal top-scored for the Strikers with 21 points while Destacamento added 14 and Montuano 10, helping Bacoor to their 14th win against three defeats.
Acosta finished with 25 points for the Heroes while Mike Parala added 13 and Bautista 12, but Biñan still fell short, losing their 11th game in 17 starts.
Bacoor will be back in action on October 10 against the Cebu Sharks while Biñan will face the Parañaque Patriots on October 15.
