Dionisio knew Manila couldn’t take Basilan lightly

Even though Manila is among the top teams in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup, Aris Dionisio knew that his team needed to take it up a notch to secure a 66-65 win against the Basilan Steel on Wednesday.

The Steel took control of that game in the second half, leading for the most part of the game. Manila, however, tied the game at 62-62 with 2:21 left to play. Then, Dionisio came up with two big baskets and a huge block to give the Stars four-point cushion which proved to be enough down the stretch.

“Yung Basilan kasi kumpleto din sila. Hindi mo pwedeng basta ismolin. ‘Di kagaya ng ibang team na match-up pa lang, makikita na,” Dionisio said in the post-game interview.

Dionisio finished that game with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks while Carlo Lastimosa led the Stars with 15 markers, three boards, an assist, and a steal. Gabby Espinas also had 10 points, six boards, seven dimes, one interception, and two rejections.

That win also gave Manila a 13-2 win-loss record. Now, the Stars will be enjoying a 12-day break. They, however, will be facing a tough Caloocan Supremos side when they return to action on October 15.
