The Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors held off a late Bataan Risers uprising to take a 64-63 victory on Wednesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Valenzuela Astrodome.
The Realtors were up 60-51 with four minutes left to play when Byron Villarias hit a three-pointer. Leo Najorda responded with a pair of free throws for Pasig, but Jose Presbitero nailed a three-ball of his own to pull the Risers to within 57-62 with 2:38 to go.
Presbitero then had two more three-pointers to cut the deficit to one, 63-64, with 51.9 seconds to go. The Realtors failed to score on the final moments of the game but did just enough defensively to also hold the Risers scoreless to seal the victory.
Najorda dropped 20 points, four rebounds, one assist, and two steals to lead Pasig against his former team. Josan Nimes added 15 points, six boards, two dimes, and the interceptions while Robbie Manalang contributed 12 points, two boards, four assists, and one steal.
Villarias top-scored for the Risers with 13 points while Presbitero and James Castro added 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Bataan led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter before Pasig took a 29-28 advantage at the half. The Realtors had a huge third quarter to lead 51-39 heading into the final canto, but the Risers had a late-game surge to turn it into a one-point game. Pasig, however, still prevailed.
With the win, Pasig now holds a 10-4 win-loss record while Bataan dropped to 7-8. The Realtors will be up for a big test against the Makati Super Crunch on October 8 while the Risers will try to bounce back against the Bacolod Master’s Sardines on the same day.
