SMB rides blistering second half, clobbers hapless Alaska for win no. 2

The San Miguel Beermen rode a blistering second half to clobber the Alaska Aces, 109-83, and sustain their fiery start to their Grandslam chase with win number 2 on Sunday in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Governors' Cup at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sport Complex.
The Beermen actually found themselves down at the end of the first frame, 25-29, but the 2019 Philippine Cup and Commissioner's Cup champions just decided to turn it on in the second frame to retake the lead. The Aces though hanged in tough, only trailing by just seven points, 42-49, at the half.
San Miguel, however, was just too much for the Aces, who were missing five players due to injuries. Import Justin Watts is one of those players as he suffered a calf injury just yesterday.
SMB import Dez Well initiated the offensive onslaught, exploding for 17 points in the third quarter alone. The rest of the Beermen simply followed suit as Terrence Romeo, Alex Cabagnot, and June MAr Fajardo conspired for a 32-point third quarter outburst to pull away for good.
SMB even erected a 31-point advantage at the start of the final frame after three consecutive long bombs from Von Pessumal to put the exclamation point to the Beermen's strong start in the conference.
Romeo added 18 points while Fajardo, Cabagnot, Kelly Nabong, and Arwind Santos all finished with 10 points each for the Beermen.
Jvee Casio paced the Aces with 16 points while Vic Manuel added 14 markers, but the Aces remained winless in three games.
The Beermen will fly to Dubai to face the NLEX Road Warriors on Octover 14 while the Aces will face the Meralco Bolts next Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
