Captain Marbel Kenneth Duremdes relishes Return of the Rivals experience

Former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes played for the Alaska Milkmen when they faced the San Miguel Beermen in the ‘Return of the Rivals’ event over the weekend.
There, he teamed up with Jojo Lastimosa, Willie Miller, Jeff Cariaso, Bong Hawkins, and other legends of the storied franchise owned by Wilfred Uytengsu.
Father time has obviously caught up with most of the players in that game, but it was a great experience all the same for the fans who felt the nostalgia seeing the PBA legends ball on the hard court. Duremdes also shared the same sentiments.
“To me, the experience is really great. Parang reunion and you see a lot of your teammates and opponents before,” he said in an interview with Courtside Philippines.
“And we would like to thank also those who went there, our fans, dahil alam nila na kahit hindi na kami ganon [maglaro]... to them, it’s worth na nakita nila ulit kami in the hard court playing once again for a common cause,” Duremdes said.
Return of the Rivals, however, is so much more than just a basketball exhibition.
“But the essence there is the spirit of charity. Yung event na yon ‘Return of the Rivals’ is actually for our players before who are in need, especially sa health, yun and importante,” he added.
“And to us, we are really thankful also for the fans who went there and also dun sa mga organizers na nagbigay ng chance for us to perform and to show them na, if it’s for a common cause ay lahat ng players nandun, nagparticipate,” Duremdes said.
Duremdes was a member of the PBA’s 40 Greatest Players list. He is a six-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a former league MVP, a nine-time PBA All-Star, and a two-time Best Player of the Conference awardee.
This Philippine hoops legend is also currently the commissioner of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
