Ravena's return a huge boost for NLEX

by Reynald Magallon, September 11, 2019 9:47pm

Returning Kiefer Ravena and NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao both agreed that Ravena's return will be a huge boost for their campaign in the 2019 Governors Cup.

"This is going to be big for us because the last time Kiefer played for us we made it to the semi finals so dun siya kumbaga, dun tumigil yung career niya so continuation ito," said Guiao after their 107-93 loss at the hands of the defending champions Magnolia Hotshots in their tune-up game on Wednesday,

"I'm hoping we can start from there sana makarating kami ng Semis with him," he added.

Ravena thinks the same way as Guiao, believing that they have no excuse now to underperform in the coming third conference.

"Wala na kaming excuse. I guess we're complete na, tapos na yung national team, Kevin na lang kulang so sabi nga ni coach Yeng kanina we have no excuses for this conference and hopefully we'll able to reach out expectations, the last time I played a full conference we made it to the Semis so hopefully mangyari uli yun," said Ravena.

The Road Warriors will be boasting a formidable line-up with the addition of Jericho Cruz and Mike Miranda. The two will be joining Guiao's old reliables in Cyrus Baguio, Poi Erram and Ken Ighalo. Also now, right in the equation is the possible return of injured guard Kevin alas who could form a dynamic duo in the backcourt for Ravena. Guiao, though was tempering the expectations on Alas' possible return.

"Malapit na rin makabalik si Kevin, baka siguro October makalaro na siya although of course hindi naman ibig sabihin na pag laro nun babalik agad yung regular game nun. It will take a little while just like what Kiefer's trying to. He's taking a little while before makuha niya yung regular rhythm niya."

For Ravena's part, he said he's ready to go back into action after missing the PBA due to his 18-month ban due after testing positive to substances prohibited in the World Anti-Doping Acency list.

"Di naman ako nag miss ng practice. Nagpapractice ako twice-a-day sa NLEX kahit nung may Gilas pa, just making up for the lost time nung nawala kami for how many days, more than ten days kami nawala so kailangan lang makabawi," said Ravena who immediately join the team's practice after arriving from China a day before.
