QC escapes Caloocan to snap skid
by Eugene Flores, September 11, 2019 8:42pm
The Quezon City Capitals Wemsap held off the Caloocan Supremos-Victory Liner to snap their two-game losing skid, 87-84, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League at the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor.
They were ahead by 12 points before the Supremos clawed their way back behind a Paul Sanga three-ball, 80-85. Zags Gonzaga made a layup on the other end before an AJ Mandani's trey plus a Thomas Torres free throw moved Caloocan to within three points with 53 seconds left.
Torres forced a turnover but Caloocan missed a pack the opportunities four to tie the game. The ball went out of bounds with Caloocan still in possession after the review but Paul Sanga's trey was offline, their fifth attempt giving QC the win.
Dharrel Caranguian led the Capitals with 22 points, three rebounds, and three assists while his partner Aaron Black flirted with a triple-double, 12 points, 12 rebounds, and nine rebounds.
Five players reached double-figures for Caloocan topped by the 19-point performance of Almond Vosotros. Sanga had 13 points, Mandani got 12 while Torres and Mark Sarangay chipped 10 markers apiece.
QC is now a game behind for a .500 winning percentage with a 6-7 (win-loss) card while Caloocan dropped to .500 with a 7-7 record.
