Travis expects nothing less than a championship in return for Magnolia
by Reynald Magallon, September 11, 2019 9:46pm
Magnolia import Romeo Travis was expecting nothing less than a championship in his return for the Hotshots.
"There's only one expectation it's the championship, if we fall short then we failed to do something that we're capable of doing," said Travis after guiding his Hotshots to a 107-93 victory in a tune-up game against the NLEX Road Warriors on Wednesday.
Travis was aware at how the other teams stacked up in the Governor's Cup tapping the services of some tested and prolific imports, however, American forward believes that his team has the tools to once afain come out on top and defend their title.
"It's gonna be a good conference, there's a lot of good players here, imports and locals so you cant really go in with anything less than great expectations, it's gonna be a competition, you got to go here and compete every night there's no easy wins you got to play hard and hope for the best," said the former Best Import awardee.
It will be Travis' third stint in the PBA, his second with the Hotshots. Travis shared that his adjustment with the team has been smooth, although he bared that he was still looking to develop that chemistry with the rest of the team.
"There's always gonna be an adjustment because, they go from All-Filipino to the commissioner's cup and then to the governor's cup so there's a lot of different players. There's a lot of different moving pieces so there's always gonna be that adjusting time so I tried to come as early as possible so the adjustment time could be less and less by game time we can be on the same page," said Travis.
Expect the 6'5" work horse to put in the work for the Hotshots.
"Just gonna help my team, as always and the guys are gonna help me and we're gonna help each other. No one person can win the championship in this league. We have a really good roster from top to bottom and I think we have a really good chance to compete with a championship."
