As free agency comes nearing for the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan season head coach Cholo Villanueva is far less concern as he remains confident with his 10-2 (win-loss) Makati Super Crunch.
"It crosses my mind pero I'm happy with the group of boys that I have. Because we know what we want, we know the system. If there's somebody na extraordinary enough na comes to mind and a hole that we need to fill in yun lang eh," he said.
With their win last night against the Marikina Shoemasters, Makati is now tied at the second spot in the North Division with the powerhouse Manila Stars at 10-2 (win-loss). Villanueva believes they have all the tools needed to go further this season.
"Pero at the back of my head I don't recall kung sino mang pwede to fill in our role in the team eh unless it is a game changer pero for the guys who were here I'm sure and confident we can to the next level with this group. We'll see kung meron, kung wala I'm happy na sa team ko," he added.
The only concern he sees right now for them is how to solidify and be consistent on their identity, their defense.
"We still have a lot of things to improve on especially in our losses we're giving up 90 points per game which is not our identity and how to play defense the right way if you're going to see on our losses lairing yung aming fouls. We're a defensive team we have to find a proper way to play defense. We lose two games because of too much fouling."
"We did some adjustments in practice, we play defense, we were aggressive pero we're doing things the right way. No reaching in, no hacking, no fouling so when it comes to the game we have that habit."
