The Philadelphia 76ers is set to unveil a statue honoring Charles Barkley on September 13, NBA.com reported.
The team will hold the ceremony at noon along the Legends Walk at the 76ers' training complex in New Jersey. Philadelphia retired Barkley’s No. 34 in 2001.
The Hall of Famer and Dream Teamer will be the seventh former player of the team to have a sculpture, following fellow 76ers legends Billy Cunningham, Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Cheeks, Julius Erving, Hal Greer, and Bobby Jones.
Barkley was named one of the 50 greatest players in 1996 after being selected fifth overall by the team in the 1984 National Basketball Association Rookie Draft. He played eight years for the Sixers and averaged 23.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in 37.3 minutes per game.
During his tenure in Philadelphia, Barkley was named an All-Star from 1987 to 1992. Nicknamed ‘The Round Mound of Rebound’, he led the league in rebounding in 1986-87, with an average of 14.6 boards per game.
