Bunyi shares EAC players told coaching staff: ‘Wag kayong bibitaw sa amin coach’
by Niel Victor Masoy, August 14, 2019 5:18pm
Amidst the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals five-game losing skid which dropped them to a 1-6 win-loss card, EAC head coach Oliver Bunyi shared the bright spot in this so far gloomy Generals’ campaign in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) season 95 Seniors basketball tournament.
And that is his players aren’t losing hope yet.
In fact, the Generals told EAC coaching staff to not give up on them.
This, after they got drubbed by the Mapua University (MU) Cardinals on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
“Sabi naman ng mga players, sinabihan nila kami na coach ‘wag kayong bibitaw sa amin. It’s a good thing kasi ibig sabihin nun na naniniwala [pa rin sila],” shared Bunyi in a chat with Courtside Philippines.
But Bunyi wasn’t about to pin the blame on his players, saying that them - coaches - might have some shortcomings as well. Actually, Bunyi shared the EAC coaching staff and players had an open forum about what was the culprit of their recent slump.
“Darating na dun sa punto na we want to change. We will make changes syempre dun sa attitude. Kailangan ipakita namin sa kanila kung ano diperensya niyo. Kung may diperensya naman sa sistema namin, we have to do some brainstorming about the coaches kasi baka naman kami kailangan namin ng adjustment.”
Bunyi said the doldrums that the Generals are is a harsh reality check that they still have a long way to go in going out of the cellar of the team standings - they’ve been in that position way before Bunyi took over for the team.
“Parang it’s some sort of reality check na ang team namin hindi naman kami talaga malakas pero hindi dapat kami naglalaro nang ganyang klase. We are an inexperienced team pero below par yung performance namin. Birth pains siguro namin yun. We want to stay positive but naglagay na rin kami ng limitation kung hanggang kailan kami magiging positive.
We still have two games to go sa first round and malaking adjustment in terms of… let’s say practical na lang yun na lang titignan, yun muna bibigyan namin ng diin. Yung last two games namin sa JRU (Jose Rizal University) tsaka Arellano (University - AU) - nakita na namin yun eh. It was not supposed to happen against Mapua kaya lang nangyari ulit the same thing.”
Still, Bunyi made it clear that the Generals are still out to compete and try to win their remaining games in the ongoing season. He said that EAC must carry that willingness to win especially when it takes on the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas on August 20 for its next game.
“As much as possible, dahil nanggaling kami sa sunod na talo. Yung intention namin dapat nandun pa rin. Hindi pa rin kami titigil hanggang manalo.”
