Haven't able to experience any basketball clinics on his childhood years paved way for the former ex-pro Mark Macapagal to conduct free basketball clinics on the youth of his hometown, San Simon, Pampanga.
Macapagal, the newest addition for the Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines, revealed on an inclusive interview with Courtside Philippines more information on his advocacy.
"I'm conducting free basketball clinics sa mga bata, ranging age from seven years old to 10 and then 11-14 hanggang 15-18. That's free so we give free basketball, mga bola sa mga bata," said Macapagal.
The free basketball clinic is one of the projects of the current San Simon's Councilor.
"Gusto ko kasi yung advocacy namin sa youth at least kahit man lang sports ma-lift namin yung level nung hometown namin."
"Ako yung nagtuturo but now since may [MPBL] na kukuha na rin ako ng mga coaches na mga kakilala ko so atleast medyo magkaroon lang ng kaunting trainings then exhibitions para lang maging masaya yung lugar namin."
Macapagal's going around the town twice in a month for the program.
"Sakin I conduct [training] on one barangay every at least twice, two barangays every month. Weekends yon, Saturday and Sunday tapos kabilang barangay naman Saturday, Sunday din."
He further detailed that the advocacy is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign to involve the youth more on sports.
"Atleast ang target kasi noon magkaroon sila ng ideya and kasi we want to involve the youth in sports para atleast yung frustrations and dala nila sa buhay mailabas nila sa sports hindi sa drugs."
