Kemba Walker: ‘I’m having an amazing offseason’

National Basketball Association star Kemba Walker said that he is having an ‘amazing summer’ after transferring to a new team and being named to the Team USA pool from which head coach Gregg Popovich will pick the final lineup for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

In an interview with Kristen Ledlow of NBA TV during Team USA’s practice, Walker said that he is having a good time in the offseason.

“It’s been great. I’ve been blessed. I’m having an amazing summer, and hopefully, it can continue,” said Walker, who signed with the Boston Celtics for four-years and $142 million after leaving the Charlotte Hornets. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, the biggest contract the Hornets offered Walker was for five years at $160 million.

Not only is Walker—a three-time All-Star—getting paid, he is also teaming up with a solid core that includes Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart—guys who have had some success in the playoffs together. Gordon Hayward is also part of the Celtics’ unit.

Outside of the NBA, Walker has become the face of the Team USA that is set to compete for the gold medal in the World Cup, especially after veteran superstars withdrew from participation for the national squad.

Asked what he wishes to accomplish with Team USA, Walker replied: “I want to win a medal, that’s really it.”

Walker also said that he is hoping to continue to improve his game even after being named to the All-NBA Third Team last season.

“We’re taking it day by day, practice by practice right now. But for this game, just to continue to get better. Each and every day in practice it’s been fun and so much work. It’s been fun being around them,” Walker said.
